Memorial Day 2017 Halcyon Cemetery - Arroyo Grande Cemetery
Although there were several Memorial Day ceremonies in the 5 cities area this Memorial Day, this year I chose to visit the small forgotten cemetery of Halcyon and pay my respects to the 22 individuals who served our country and rest in the peaceful Eucalyptus Grove. There were no celebrations and no speeches for those who rest there, however a small American Flag was placed on each grave of those who served. Sadly a few months ago a terrible storm here on the central coast brought down many of the huge Eucalyptus trees on the property and much of the grounds still needs to be cleaned up and several tombstones repaired. One of the American Flags was placed on a storm damaged grave, no tombstone visible.
On my way home, I also briefly visited the Arroyo Grande Cemetery where I met two nice people there to honor a fallen family member. I spent some time with them, William and Dell, two strangers who are now acquaintances I hope to run across again. William did promise to buy me a donut should we meet at our local donut shop! My last stop was at dusk at the Pismo Beach Pier where ceremonies had been held earlier in the day. A memorial wreath was placed at the town flagpole and an American Flag flew high over the pier from the construction crane.
