Five Cities Swim Club
Red Fish, Blue Fish...
Founded in 1984 by Jeffrey Purchin, the 5 Cities Swim School has been teaching children how to swim for over 30 years. Offering programs for seniors and adults, recreational swimming, swim classes for toddlers and even available to rent for parties, the school has taught thousands of Central Coast kids to swim.
When Jeff attended a Swim School conference in No. Carolina, they visited a swim school that had fish sculptures that caught Jeff's eye. They were made by a French sculptor, Jean Pierre Feral. It just so happened that Jeff had a trip planned to visit France, so he made arrangements to meet Jean Pierre. They met, and through an interpreter, Jeff told him about their school and that they wanted to bring the magic of Jean Pierre’s fish into their facility.
When Jeff sent him a photo of the swim school, Jean Pierre then designed 38 fish for them. On pins and needles waiting for the fish to be made and shipped to the states, they were finally hung earlier this year after spending a few weeks at port going through customs.
Jean Pierre’s sculptures can be seen in many countries, Disney World in Paris, and right here in Arroyo Grande, CA.
