Grover Beach & Oceano
Located on the Pacific Ocean coastline, surrounded by farms, strawberry and flower-fields, wineries, and a quaint railroad station, Grover Beach, is in the Central Coast area of California, midway between Los Angeles and San Francisco. It is part of the Five Cities Area, a term used to describe the cluster of cities that are present in this area of San Luis Obispo County. Also part of the Five Cities is Oceano.
Oceano, Spanish for Ocean, is home to the Oceano Dunes State Vehicular Recreation Area, a 1,500 acre coastal sand dune. As the only state park in California where visitors can drive off road vehicles on the beach, tourists are attracted from all over the United States. Activities on this beach include riding the sand dunes on all-terrain-vehicles, swimming, clamming, camping, surfing, surf fishing, horseback riding, hiking, and bird watching.

Grover Beach History (Wikipedia): Grover Beach was originally known as Town of Grover, which was founded on August 1, 1887 by Dwight William Grover. This occurred when he filed his plans at the San Luis Obispo County Court House and eventually founded what was to be known as City of Grover City. There was a popular vote that allowed incorporating on December 21, 1959 as City of Grover City. However, the name seemed redundant so some people were seeking better names, especially ocean-oriented names. In 1992, there was another popular vote, where the town's name was officially changed from "City of Grover City" to "Grover Beach" to emphasize the seaside location.
